The Reds have been actively searching for a long-term solution to their midfield since the departure of Fabinho to Al-Ittihad.
While they brought in options like Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, neither has fully stabilised the position.
Their pursuit of targets such as Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia also ended in disappointment, with both opting for Chelsea.
However, Liverpool may finally get their midfield reinforcement in January, with reports from Football Insider suggesting that Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is on their radar.
Despite Zubimendi’s rejection, the Reds are undeterred and could make a strong push for Wharton, who has become a rising star in the Premier League.

Wharton has impressed since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2022, establishing himself as a key player at Selhurst Park. His performances have even earned him a call-up to England’s Euro 2024 squad, solidifying his reputation as one of the country’s brightest midfield talents.
Despite not featuring in the tournament and missing out on recent international squads, the 20-year-old remains highly valued, with Palace reportedly setting a hefty £100 million price tag on him.
Liverpool, however, are no strangers to spending big on key players, as evidenced by their £111 million bid for Caicedo last summer.
With the need for a long-term midfield solution still pressing, the club could be ready to make another significant investment.
Wharton’s youth, Premier League experience, and versatility make him an attractive option to fill the void left by Fabinho.
Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in Wharton as a potential replacement for Rodri, should the Spaniard move to Real Madrid.
But with Liverpool already preparing for a January move, they could steal a march on their Premier League rivals to secure one of the most exciting young midfielders in England.
After missing out on several targets, a successful move for Wharton would mark a huge boost for Liverpool’s midfield and could be the decisive step in reinforcing their squad for a serious title challenge.
