Arsenal dealt fresh injury blow as midfielder withdrawn vs Bolton after major knock - report

Arsenal have been dealt another injury blow after versatile midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly was withdrawn during their Carabao Cup game against Bolton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

The 17-year-old started at left-back against the League One club and was substituted in the 62nd minute for Gabriel Magalhaes.

Lewis-Skelly had a knock and the issue appeared to be off the ball, and while he walked back to the sidelines and looked like he would continue, the Arsenal academy graduate could not, going down with the injury.

Gabriel moved to centre-back after coming on, while Riccardo Calafiori who started the game at centre-back moved to left-back.

Lewis-Skelly made his professional debut for Arsenal at the weekend, coming on in the closing stages of the Premier League game against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.

He was booked before he came on after relaying a message to David Raya to delay the proceedings and was handed his first start tonight.

Arsenal strolled to a 5-1 victory against Bolton to book their place in the fourth round and manager Mikel Arteta will hope the win has not come at the expense of the fitness of another player.

The Spaniard is already without Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney, while Raya was excluded from the matchday squad against the League One club after picking up a knock against Man City.

Ben White played through the pain barrier against Man City and was also not involved tonight, and Arteta will hope he is fit for the league game against Leicester City this weekend.

He was forced to play 16-year-old goalie Jack Porter against Bolton as Neto is cup-tied having played in the competition this season before joining the North London club, while Tommy Setford is injured.
