Arteta provides big injury update on Raya, Timber, White and Merino for Leicester clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on four players ahead of the Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners have picked up 11 points from their opening five games of the league season.

They played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, but should fancy a win over the Foxes with home advantage.

Ahead of the game, Arteta has delivered an injury update on four first-team stars.

The manager revealed that David Raya remains doubtful with a muscle injury and he will need to be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s afternoon kick-off.

He told reporters (via football.london): “We have to wait another 24 hours. We have to wait 24 hours to see if it’s looking good or not that good.

“It’s about a player being fit and available or not. When we have that clarity for Leicester we will make that decision tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the Spanish tactician confirmed that Jurrien Timber will take part in training today and he will be available in the squad alongside Ben White.

He added: “Jurrien was able to take part in training today so he’ll be available in the squad. Hopefully Ben too.”

However, the game will come too soon for Mikel Merino, who was involved in partial training today after recovering from a minor fracture on his shoulder.

When asked about Merino, Arteta said: “Tomorrow is too soon. Next week we’ll see. He had partial training today.

“It’s about the healing of the bone and seeing when he’s ready for contact.”

Arsenal have had a tough schedule on paper with away trips to Aston Villa, Tottenham and City in the first five league games.

They could have picked up nine points from those outings, had John Stones not scored a late equaliser late weekend.

The club have also been unlucky with sending offs against Brighton & Hove Albion and City where they looked on course for victories.

Arsenal now have the opportunity to build momentum with home games against Leicester, Paris Saint-Germain and Southampton before the international break.
