The Manchester Evening News has reported that Manchester United have agreed to sign Obi-Martin, 16, but the move is pending Premier League approval. United's head of the academy, Nick Cox, and their head of academy recruitment, Luke Fedorenko, are understood to be responsible for the deal.
Arsenal offered Obi-Martin fresh terms to stay at the club he joined from Denmark's oldest club, Kjobenhavns Boldklub (KB), four years ago. However, he announced his departure on Instagram in late July.
Eskesen has acknowledged the player's situation after calling him up to the country's under-18s national team. "I spoke to him last week and asked him if he was fit for the fight and injury-free," the coach told the Copenhagen-based sports magazine Tipsbladet.
"He was, and he is in between jobs. Right now, he doesn't have a club, but it's only a matter of time. A lot happens in the transfer window.
Eskesen added: "When I read about him, they have been queuing up to get him. I'm sure a man with that talent will have no trouble finding a club. It might be more about which club he chooses."
But the conversation with Chido-Obi seemingly left Eskesen with little doubt about calling the player up this month. "We know what he stands for," the coach said. "He has scored a lot of goals and had a good [European under-17 Championship] recently."
The annual competition took place in Greece during May and early June, with Chido-Obi scoring twice before being named in the team of the tournament. Eskesen explained: "His greatest competence is that he scores many goals.
"If you saw some of the goals at the European Championship... he's a really good finisher and positional, so he gets free for that. He is also good man-to-man.
"He is good at running in depth in relation to getting into free positions. His finishing skills are what allow him to score so many goals.
"One is to get the chances – number two is to score. There he is above average, and that is what makes him so interesting."
