Darwin Nunez and Virgil van Dijk left blown away by £50m Liverpool player in 3-0 win over Bournemouth

Arne Slot certainly got Liverpool’s league campaign back on track against Bournemouth on Saturday, eventually dispatching the visitors with some authority.

Slot’s big selection call was to give Darwin Nunez an opportunity in place of Diogo Jota, a decision the Liverpool manager got spot on.

Jota’s effectiveness has been waning in recent games and Nunez was clearly ready to prove a point – a striker frustrated not to be playing more.

But the Uruguayan certainly channelled that disappointment positively against Bournemouth, scoring a delightful left-footed effort that beat Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Of course, Kepa was also beaten twice by Luis Diaz, who continued his excellent start to the new campaign.

Diaz has now scored five goals in five Premier League appearances this term, a remarkable record considering he netted just eight league goals in the entirety of last season.

Luis Diaz applauded by Liverpool teammates after two more goals at Anfield
Before the new campaign began, Diaz was linked with a move to Barcelona, rumours that refused to subside during the Copa America.

Fortunately, Diaz has returned in brilliant mood and form for Liverpool – his head has certainly not been turned.

After scoring two for Liverpool on Saturday, Diaz – who cost the club £50m in 2022 – took to Instagram to celebrate an ‘outstanding’ win.

Diaz uploaded a collection of photos from the fruitful afternoon, a performance adored by both his Colombia and Liverpool teammates.

And as well as a reply from James Rodriguez, all of Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai, Nunez and Curtin Jones replied.

Of course, after such an electric start, Diaz will surely be hoping to eclipse his best league tally to date, the 14 goals he scored for FC Porto in the 2021/22 season before heading to Anfield.

Caoimhin Kelleher proved why he’s not happy at Liverpool
Among the good displays against Bournemouth on Saturday, Caoimhin Kelleher also stood out, a goalkeeper who wants to play first team football.

Kelleher is determined to leave Liverpool according to reports, a player who understands that he’s not going to displace Alisson Becker any time soon.

Of course, Kelleher still took his chance in the 3-1 win regardless, producing some excellent saves.

Admittedly, one of the stops Kelleher made was resultant of his own lethargy on the ball – but the display still deserved applause nonetheless.

An excellent afternoon for Liverpool, who will be hoping to win all four of their remaining matches before the next international break.
