Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal once again missed out on the league title last season. Despite having a strong squad at his disposal, the Spanish manager could not help them get the better of Manchester City. In order to go past Pep Guardiola’s team, he was keen on adding more firepower to his squad, with Kingsley Coman among those linked with the club.
Throughout the summer, Arteta’s men were looking to bring in a new winger who could further bolster their attack and increase the amount of competition for a place in the starting XI. Before they ended up signing Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan from Chelsea, the Gunners were linked with a move for Coman. But according to Charles Watts via Caught Offside, there might not be any truth in those rumours.
Coman has had a lot of success throughout his career. He came up the ranks at PSG and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining Juventus in the summer of 2014. After winning the Serie A with the Old Lady, he joined Bayern Munich on a two-year long before the move became permanent in 2017.
The 28-year-old French international has been one of their mainstays in the final third over the years. However, things have changed in recent seasons. The left-winger has gone down the pecking order, and he is no longer a guaranteed starter for them.
Kingsley Coman to Arsenal?
While the French attacker still has three years left on his deal with the German club, he seemed keen on making a move away in the summer. Kingsley Coman was linked with a move to Arsenal quite late in the transfer window, and Watts is not sure if those rumours are true.
The Gunners wanted to bring in a new winger. Arteta was keen on more depth on the flanks, and their priority was to bring Nico Williams to the club. Unfortunately, they could not strike a deal for him and ended up looking at alternatives.
Before they struck a deal with Chelsea to sign Sterling on loan, Arsenal were linked with the 28-year-old. But, those rumours might not have been true because his representatives were doing everything in their power to try and secure him a move away from Bayern Munich.
