Mikel Arteta’s side are one of the most exciting teams in Europe but among the plethora of young players making them so exciting, there’s some experience.
Jorginho is a big part of that.
The Italian midfielder was snapped up by Arsenal for around £12m late in the winter window in 2023 and has since become a key man for Mikel Arteta.
Of course, given Chelsea’s turnover in players, it’s hard to imagine Jorginho being part of it anyway now.
And speaking to David Seaman about the move from Stamford Bridge to The Emirates, Jorginho has revealed just why he had to move on.
Jorginho of Arsenal at Sobha Realty Training Centre on September 03, 2024 in London Colney, England.
Jorginho shares why he left Chelsea for Arsenal
Speaking on the latest episode of the Seaman Says podcast, Jorginho admitted he didn’t even have to think twice about signing for the Gunners.
“It was in the last two days of the window closing, and then I saw that my time at Chelsea there was basically finished there,” Jorginho said.
“For the project there, I didn’t feel part of the project anymore and sometimes you just need to accept and move on.
“When I had the call, I didn’t think twice, you know, because I knew that Mikel, he tried to sign me before, and it did not happen and I saw the way the team was playing, which suits my qualities and I believed that I could add to the team as well, and it was yes straightaway.”
Chelsea’s loss is Arsenal’s gain
However this transfer is viewed and however Arsenal fans felt a bit deflated at the time, there’s no doubting Jorginho has been a success at Arsenal.
The Italian has brough his experience and calmness to the midfield and even though he doesn’t play every week, you can see how vital he is.
Jorginho is the type of footballer who gets in most squads in Europe and Arsenal are lucky to have such a player.
If Arsenal go on and win the title, then you can bet Jorginho will have played a key role.
