Liverpool reportedly made an attempt to try and sign Eljif Elmas during his time at Napoli. The Reds were tentatively linked with the North Macedonia international during his time with the Serie A club but a deal never got completed.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, via Area Napoli, Liverpool were prepared to submit an offer to sign Elmas worth €30 million (£25 million). However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was determined to keep the midfielder and gave a defiant "no" to the Reds when they expressed an interest, it has been claimed.

Despite this stance, it was only in January that Napoli did eventually decide to allow Elmas to leave the club. A reported fee worth €25 million (£21 million) was agreed between the RB Leipzig and the Italian club, and Elmas' time in Naples came to an end.

Elsewhere, Liverpool almost missed out on being able to sign Federico Chiesa. The Reds completed a deal to sign the forward from Juventus after a fee worth up to £12.5 million was agreed.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, via Caught Offside, Bayern Munich had the chance to sign Chiesa. It has been claimed that the Bundesliga club were looking to sign a new forward and were presented with the opportunity to sign Chiesa.

However, Bayern instead chose to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. As a result, the report states that after the German club didn't sign Chiesa it gave Liverpool the chance to bring him to Anfield.
