Liverpool player turning up late for training causes fitness fear – Continues with group

Alexis Mac Allister turned up late for Argentina training on Monday, reports Ole. The Argentine newspaper doesn’t suggest it’s because the Liverpool midfielder’s timekeeping has slipped, but it’s more likely related to his current fitness issues.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni last week said the midfielder had turned up with a fitness problem at the start of the international break. At the time it was reported Mac Allister had an overload in a right adductor muscle.
Despite that, Scaloni started him against Chile. He had to come off after 79 minutes in that match, after ‘alarm bells rang’ when he dropped to the pitch and held the affected area.
After missing the start of training, which prompted ‘fear’, the Liverpool player then took part with the rest of the squad, something Ole suggest he needed to so he’s involved in tonight’s match against Colombia.

Mac Allister is expected to start, even given his issues and the fact that Argentina have other options.

Arne Slot will almost certainly rather he didn’t, and may be watching the match through his fingers.
