Liverpool plot 2025 move for 22-year-old Euro 2024 winner

Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are reportedly prioritising signing 22-year-old Athletic Club winger Nico Williams to replace Mohamed Salah next summer.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Nico Williams remains the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have been keen on signing the 22-year-old Athletic Club winger for a long time. They will prioritise signing the young attacker if Mohamed Salah calls time on his stint at Anfield in the 2025 summer transfer window.

The rise and rise of Nico Williams
Nico Williams has established himself as one of the best players in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at Athletic Club a few years ago. The younger brother of Inaki Williams joined the Basque outfit in July 2013 and has gone from strength to strength in the past decade.

The 22-year-old has been slow off the blocks in the 2024/25 season, even though he has produced impressive performances. Williams has managed only one goal in seven appearances thus far, although his stock remains high after an exceptional campaign at UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain.

The Spanish attacker is a hot property in the market, with several high-profile clubs across Europe retaining their interest in him. Many European bigwigs were also keen on signing Williams in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea failing with their enquiries. The youngster has emerged as a target for Liverpool for next summer.

Liverpool interested
Liverpool’s interest in Nico Williams is understandable. The Reds are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Mohamed Salah, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract. While Liverpool will look to tie the Egyptian international to a new contract, Saudi Pro League clubs are ready to offer him a lucrative package.

So, Liverpool must plan for life after Salah if they cannot tie him to a new contract. Williams has thus emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit, with the Reds viewing him as their priority target to replace their talismanic attacker.

However, Liverpool will likely face stiff competition from several well-known clubs for the 22-year-old Spanish international. Meanwhile, the youngster is keeping his options open heading into the 2025 summer transfer window.
