Major Liverpool blow as senior star is set for a spell on the sidelines

Despite a strong start to the season, with Liverpool sitting in 2nd place just behind Manchester City and not conceding a single goal, the Reds face a setback as midfielder Harvey Elliott has been injured and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.

The youngster, a Jurgen Klopp favourite is tipped for a bright future under Arne Slot and has largely come off the bench under the Dutchman. However, it is still early days and Elliott will certainly have time to make an impact under the new management.

The 21-year-old Englishman, who was representing England in the U21 Euro qualifiers and was fit for first-team performances at Anfield, returned early for a medical assessment following the injury but fans are not to be worried as Curtis Jones is back in full training after missing the last two games.

Elliott was forced to withdraw from the squad last Wednesday and missed the matches against Northern Ireland and Austria. The Liverpool star was excelling for the England U21 squad and hoped that his recent performances with the national team would earn him some playing time with the senior Liverpool team.

How Liverpool Can Overcome This Setback
fellow midfielder Curtis Jones, who has missed the last couple of games, could be back in the squad for Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest. Forward Federico Chiesa could make his debut then.

Chiesa can play on either wing and can also play centrally, either as a second striker or in a No.10 role. While he might not immediately secure a starting spot, he offers valuable depth for any position in Liverpool’s attacking lineup.

Chiesa’s addition also gives Klopp more tactical options. For example, Klopp could choose to play Salah centrally, experiment with a traditional front two, or even use Chiesa and Salah as inside forwards in a 3-4-3 formation.

However, The Times, Elliott is likely to be sidelined until late October. The Englishman who has 77 appearances in the Premier League, has fractured his foot and will miss out on a key period of fixtures for the Reds. Hopefully, he comes back stronger and will seize his opportunities in what should be a long campaign for the Merseysiders.

Liverpool have made an excellent start to the season under their new Dutch coach, winning all three of their Premier League matches without conceding a goal. However, it remains to be seen whether Slot can maintain this winning streak as injuries begin to affect the squad.
