Man Utd legend Andy Cole names Arsenal transfer as best summer deal

Manchester United legend Andy Cole believes Raheem Sterling's loan move to Arsenal could prove to be the signing of the summer.
Sterling joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Chelsea, having been frozen out at Stamford Bridge by new manager Enzo Maresca. The move has seen Sterling reunite with Mikel Arteta, having worked closely with the Gunners boss when he was Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City.

"My time with Raheem was exceptional," Arteta said last month. "We built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at that time. He taught me a lot as well, about individuals, how the players think, how we help them and support them. He is someone I have really strong feelings about."

And Cole, who won five Premier League titles during his time at United, believes Sterling can get back to his best at the Emirates. When asked which transfer has impressed him the most, Cole told Betfred : "Possibly Raheem Sterling ’s loan move to Arsenal.

"I really do believe that’s good business and like everybody else, I’m astounded that Enzo Maresca came out and said that Raheem wasn’t going to get any minutes under him. It was like Enzo was shooting himself in the foot by saying that.

"It’s not like his position is solidified because if they go on a bad run, he’ll be out the door as well. Arsenal have done good business by getting Raheem in." Former Arsenal defender Viv Anderson also believes Sterling will prove to be an excellent signing for the Gunners as they look to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

"It is going to be difficult because clearly Manchester City are the team to beat," Anderson said at the launch of the new Prostate United shirt. "But Raheem Sterling has come in on loan until the end of the season, and he is a really good player who can turn games.

"The manager’s signings have been good and I like what I see at Arsenal, so they have got a chance of bridging that gap (to City). You could say Arsenal need a centre forward like (Erling) Haaland who is going to score them 20-odd league goals, but Kai Havertz has started quite well.

"So if he can continue to get in the positions to score the goals, and is up there with 15 or 16, maybe even 20, then you are going to be thereabouts. With the likes of Sterling, (Bukayo) Saka and Gabriel (Magalhaes) at the back, Arsenal have got some really good players, so it is going to be close."
