Marc Guehi transfer stance confirmed as Liverpool handed deadline day update

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Liverpool-linked Marc Guehi will remain at the Eagles. The centre-back has been linked with the Reds and Newcastle United all summer after emerging as one of the Premier League's most promising centre-backs.

Guehi's performance for Palace earned him a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad at Euro 2024 this summer. The 24-year-old played in all but one game for the Three Lions as they reached the final before losing 2-1 to Spain.

Reports from The Telegraph last month claimed that Palace valued Guehi at £65million. Echo Sport understands Liverpool were not interested in signing the centre-back earlier in the transfer window and there has been no indication that stance has altered.

And Glasner has now confirmed that the defender will remain at Selhurst Park beyond Friday's transfer deadline. "I can confirm Marc Guehi will stay," he said in Palace's pre-match press conference before their trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

"It was never really in doubt. Congrats to the club and the owner, they never gave in." Guehi recently admitted that he is "so relaxed and chilled" about his future.

"If I had a magic wand to sort everything out in an instant I would, but I don’t," he told BBC Football Focus. "You can’t control any exterior noise. I just focus on my football and giving my best.

"I want to play as long as possible. If I could play to 40, great. I have stopped trying to figure out where I end up [in my career] because you can get too wrapped up in those things.

"I’ve had a few goals that didn’t go quite right, saying at this age I should be here. That's a bit too presumptuous. Everyone has their own journey."
