Report: Arsenal are ‘definitely’ planning a move for £120m striker next summer

Although Arsenal signed all of David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino permanently this summer, most of their summer spending was off-set by departures.
Arsenal also sold the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Aaron Ramsdale and Eddie Nketiah, three homegrown favourites.

But ultimately Edu and Mikel Arteta made some tough calls, trimming their squad and effectively better preparing themselves to compete with Manchester City.

Although Arsenal were able to sign Raheem Sterling on deadline day, perhaps the only criticism levied at the club’s transfer team will be the failure to secure a new striker.

Kai Havertz is in brilliant form – there’s no need to bring in a new starter right now, but perhaps Gabriel Jesus isn’t proving as the perfect partner for the German, mostly because of his injuries.

Arsenal tried to sign Benjamin Sesko early in the summer, but the striker was happy to stay put – just like another goal-scoring superstar thought to be on the club’s radar.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is ‘very high’ on Arsenal’s shortlist
Although they registered their interest this summer according to reports, Arsenal quickly moved on from their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

It’s been suggested that Isak could cost as much as £120m – a figure which was beyond the Gunners this summer.

Although, according to in-the-know source Team News and Ticks, who are hot on all things Arsenal, Arteta still has his eyes on Isak long-term.

Speaking on a podcast uploaded on their Patreon, it was shared that Isak is ‘very, very high’ on Arsenal’s list next summer.

They shared: “I’ve been told Alexander Isak will be very, very high on Arsenal’s list — He’s definitely someone I expect them to revisit next summer.

“If Newcastle don’t get Europe, you’d imagine he’d be angling for a move.”

Alexander Isak could emulate Thierry Henry at Arsenal
Amid Arsenal’s long-term interest in Isak, it’s interesting to point out that the number 14 shirt is currently vacant at the club.

Nketiah was wearing the famous digits before moving to Crystal Palace, and it seems as if Arsenal will save the honour for another special talent moving forward.

Of course, Isak would definitely fit the bill, he was performing a stellar impression of the Frenchman towards the end of last season for Newcastle.

Perhaps Isak’s fitness concerns in the past would be an issue for Arsenal when spending so much, but there’s certainly no doubt about the Swede’s quality.

And given how well Kai Havertz continues to perform for Germany, the duo could certainly be capable of leading Arsenal to another Premier League title.
