Report: What Federico Chiesa has just been doing at Liverpool over the international break

Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool this summer as one of two signings Arne Slot made in the transfer window.

Having arrived for just £12m, there’s a real sense that Liverpool landed a bargain in the Italian international if Chiesa can remain fit this season and rediscover the form that once made the winger one of the best attackers in the world.

With Paulo Sousa lauding Liverpool’s swoop for Chiesa, expectations are high surrounding the 26-year-old forward, who could be reborn at Anfield having finally left Juventus after years of underwhelming form.

And Chiesa has now been at work over the international break trying to push himself.

Chiesa pushing to feature for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest
According to the Telegraph, Chiesa has been using the international break as a window of opportunity to build up his fitness and to make a push to feature for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Chiesa was in the stands against Manchester United earlier this month having recently signed from Juventus, with the winger not yet at full match fitness to compete in the Premier League having not played at all for Juventus in pre-season.

Indeed, Chiesa pushing himself to feature for Liverpool against Forest on the weekend is an encouraging sign that the 26-year-old is keen to make a good first impression at Anfield since signing last month.

And with Liverpool’s September schedule as stacked as it is, there’s a real chance that Chiesa could feature against Forest if the Italian is fit enough to make the squad, a development that would be a considerable boost for Slot.

Chiesa can become a key player for Liverpool this season
Chiesa is regarded as one of Italy’s most talented players despite his injury issues and lack of form in recent seasons, yet a change in scenery could be what’s needed to get the Azzurri star back to his best.

And Liverpool can be the club that does just that for Chiesa, with the winger clearly pushing as hard as he can to get involved with the Reds as early as possible this season.

As a result, Chiesa could become key for the Anfield side in their bid to win as much silverware as possible under Slot, with the winger someone who will push for a starting XI spot this season.
