Report: 'World class' free agent could now seal Premier League move after Liverpool make approach to sign him

Richard Hughes experienced a fairly quiet debut window in his new role as Director of Football at Anfield – signing just one outfield player in Federico Chiesa after making a goalkeeping addition in Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Now – however – another player could arrive at Liverpool even after last Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline in the form of a free agent…

Adrien Rabiot could be on his way to Liverpool
A story from Gazzetta dello Sport now focuses on Adrien Rabiot – with the Italian news outlet mainly confused as to how the experienced France international has not yet found a new club.

The man from Saint-Maurice entered free agency after leaving Juventus when his contract expired in July, having amassed 212 appearances for the Italian giants.

When exploring where Rabiot could end up next, Gazzetta dello Sport write that the 29-year-old could soon realise his dream of playing in the Premier League, adding that Liverpool were one side to have recently made an approach, along with Atletico Madrid.

It is a feasible prospect, as Arne Slot could still use another central midfielder at Anfield – despite moulding Ryan Gravenberch into an effective solution for the No.6 problem at the base of midfield.

The Dutchman’s bench at Old Trafford on Sunday only included Wataru Endo in terms of backup defensive midfielders, so Rabiot – who has been called a “world class” footballer – would surely get plenty of game time.

Furthermore, Rabiot has also just rejected AC Milan, increasing the chances of a Premier League move even more.

France international might demand to be a top earner at Anfield
Usually, free agents are given a bloated salary, due to the lack of any transfer fee involved.

One memorable example of this actually involved Juventus. The Serie A side famously handed Aaron Ramsey a £400,000-a-week contract after his deal with Arsenal expired in 2019.

Therefore, Rabiot, who already earned £148,000-a-week in Turin before his departure, may seek a salary closer to £200,000-a-week at his next club, in our view at least.

Ultimately, a club as esteemed as Liverpool will be all too aware of these details anyway, so be sure to keep an eye on this situation in case the Reds make the Frenchman an offer…
