Now that league football is back on, the season will really kick off with the Champions League and League Cup also kicking off. Liverpool will basically be playing twice a week, which is the true test of Arne Slot’s first season as manager.
He understands the responsibility, and in his programme notes for the Forest game addressed the issue and what they’ve done to prepare for it.
“Up until this point, we have played one game each week but from now on we will play a match pretty much every three days so we have to be ready for that because the challenges will come thick and fast,” he wrote.
“As a squad and as a staff we have to be prepared for what is coming. Today we have the Premier League, in midweek we will play in the Champions League, then we have Premier League again and then it is Carabao Cup. This is all within the space of 11 days so it is a big challenge but also an exciting one.”
Liverpool have had a dream start to the season. They’ve won their first three games while also keeping three clean sheets. The trick now is to keep that momentum going into the autumn and maintaining that level of performance while battling on three fronts and trying to keep everyone healthy.
