Mikel Arteta had a selection headache crisis before kick-off in the North London derby due to Declan Rice’s red card and Martin Odegaard’s injury.
Arsenal opted to start with Leandro Trossard at the pinnacle of the attack and Kai Havertz behind him in Odegaard’s role and it did the job for the Spaniard.
Gabriel Magalhaes scored the only goal of the game in the second half, which sent Arsenal fans into a frenzy in the away end.
However, it wasn’t without controversy, as Jurrien Timber was involved in a couple of incidents that could have seen him given his marching orders.
Regardless, Arsenal will be pleased to have got through their first challenge without Odegaard and David Ornstein has an update on his situation…
David Ornstein what he’s ‘heard’ about Martin Odegaard’s injury situation at Arsenal
There have been plenty of contrasting reports about Martin Odegaard’s injury at Arsenal.
However, when speaking on the Athletic FC’s YouTube channel, David Ornstein shared what he last heard about the midfielder’s situation.
“He was never going to make it (the North London derby) was what Arteta said and it looks like a significant injury but look we don’t know.
“The last I heard we didn’t have full clarity from the scans still because of the full extent of the swelling but the extent of the swelling concerns you if you’re an Arsenal fan.
“Because maybe it could be quite tough but international breaks are coming up.”
How long could Odegaard be out for?
If what James Benge had heard about Odegaard’s injury is true, then he could be out for a while.
“You know we are talking three weeks at a minimum. Talking to people that know I mean they were pretty confident that there wasn’t a break or anything like that.
“But even they were talking, you know, something that maybe runs out beyond four weeks. Now, once you get to that four-week mark, you’re into the next international break.”
Everyone seems to have different reports on the current situation of the Norwegian, so it remains to be seen as to when the midfielder will be back.
