'The weird thing': Pundit claims Liverpool have already made a big mistake involving Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future has been the talk of the town in recent months as he edges closer to winding down his contract.

The Egyptian’s current deal expires next summer and as things stand, he is set to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

Salah revealed Liverpool are yet to approach him over a new contract after their 3-0 win against Manchester United and his comments generated a lot of reactions from the wider public.

David Ornstein had his say on the matter as he confirmed that Salah’s future lies in the hands of Richard Hughes, who will look to thrash out terms in the near future.

As we wait to see what happens with Liverpool’s brilliant Egyptian, Shaka Hislop believes the Reds have already left it too late with their star man.

Shaka Hislop says Liverpool have got it all wrong with Mohamed Salah
Salah has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia for nearly 18 months now and with his contract set to expire next year, clubs in the Middle East will be licking their lips about the possibility of snapping him up on a free transfer.

Hislop feels Liverpool should have sorted out the 32-year-old’s future well in advance, suggesting that they are running out of time to give him a new contract.

“The weird thing for me from a Liverpool perspective is Saudi Arabia. You know they’d be interested in a player like Mo Salah,” Hislop said on ESPN FC.

“Why do you leave it in the last year? Now all of a sudden, there is a possibility of him going on a free in 12 months.

“Even if you offer him a one-year extension it’s going to be on so much money. You could have had this conversation 18 months ago – when the Saudi interest first popped up knowing that’s not going away.

“Liverpool have got this all wrong. In this era of Profit and Sustainability where every penny coming in counts, I just thought from a business perspective, they’ve got this wrong on a number of levels”

Liverpool must renew Salah’s contract
Despite turning 32, Salah has shown no signs of slowing down and has started the season in sensational form with three goals and as many assists in their first three Premier League games.

The Egyptian is one of the fittest players in world football and still has a few more years in him at the top level.

Liverpool are usually reluctant when it comes to offering long-term deals to players over 30, but Salah is an outlier in this regard and should be offered a new contract in the coming weeks.

However, as things stand, there have been no developments and the possibility of losing one of their greatest players on a free transfer is starting to loom large at Anfield.
