Why Arsenal do not have Ethan Nwaneri in Champions League squad as Mikel Arteta makes decision

Ethan Nwaneri is notably missing from the Arsenal squad for the Champions League.
Despite being named on the bench by manager Mikel Arteta for the first three matches of the Premier League season, there is no place for the teenager among the 23 players selected, even though the maximum squad size is 25, meaning the club seemingly has two spare spaces.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Salah-Eddine Oulad M'Hand are also not included despite being part of the first team for the game against Brighton and Hove Albion before the September international break. Jimi Gower, Ayden Heaven, Josh Nichols, Lucas Nygaard, Alexei Rojas and Michal Rosiak are others absent despite being part of the club's pre-season tour squad.

However, their omissions can be explained by the squad only being their List A one. That is the set of players that cannot change until the round of 16 begins in February.

There is also a List B submission, which the club will submit the night before every Champions League match this season. That is only for under-21 players, with those born on or after January 1, 2003, able to be registered on it.

List B is also unlimited, but there are caveats about who can feature. They must have been eligible to play for Arsenal for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday or three consecutive years total with a maximum of one loan period to another English club for no more than a year. As for any 16-year-olds, they must have been with the Gunners for the last two years.

Gower, Heaven, Lewis-Skelly, Nichols, Nwaneri, Oulad M'Hand, Rojas and Rosiak seemingly satisfy that criteria and will likely feature on List B this season. However, despite his age, Tommy Setford would not have, which is why he is on List A. Lucas Nygaard also appears to not, but is not on List A, which would mean he is not eligible to play in the Champions League.
