The Gunners were cruising for victory at one stage and they were 2-0 up. But Leicester City staged a dramatic comeback and made it 2-2, and it looked like they would snatch an unlikely point.
However, two late goals in stoppage time sealed the tie in Arsenal’s favour. Leandro Trossard appeared to have scored the third goal, which was given as an own goal, while Kai Havertz scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time to deny the Foxes a point.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners, while Trossard scored the second goal of the match.
Martin Keown was seriously impressed by Trossard, and he said that he was “worth every penny”.
Arsenal signed Trossard from Brighton for £27 million from Brighton in 2023, and he has proved to be a terrific addition to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Keown said to BBC Sports: “What a buy Leandro Trossard was! Worth every penny. A perfect day if it finishes like this.
“Arsenal score from a set-piece – who’d believe it? Arsenal just kept believing. It is a lucky goal and ‘lucky Arsenal’ is a nice tag to have.”
Stunning victory for Arsenal
With that result, Arsenal have equalled points with Manchester City at the top with 14 points. Chelsea are third with 13 points, but Liverpool can secure the top spot with a win against Wolves today.
Pat Nevin has said on BBC Radio that Arsenal deserved to win by a country mile. They showed real character and never gave up.
Under Arteta, the Gunners have become a strong force and they finished second in the league in the previous two seasons. They are one of the contenders for the league title this season, and it’s not hard to see why.
They created loads of chances and put much pressure on with corners at the back post, and eventually, the goal came in. It wasn’t a pretty win for the Gunners but they will take that three points any day.
