Arne Slot has made Man Utd decision look foolish after quiet Liverpool plan that started months ago

historic enemy.

Half a year on from that, the Reds head into the weekend's fixtures as Premier League leaders and have the chance to move to the October international break with their name in top spot. It's been as seamless a transition as possible for Slot at Anfield, while over at Old Trafford, uncertainty continues to wreak havoc.

It will be fascinating to see if any triggers are pulled during the international break. One-time target Potter's appearance on Monday Night Football seemingly suggests he is making his availability known, while links to now unemployed former England boss Gareth Southgate also go on.

What was supposed to herald a new dawn at United, where supposedly serious 'football men' were now at the helm after so much largesse in the transfer market and underperformance on the pitch has basically been a continuation of that same decline, only with more chefs to now spoil the broth further.

While United's own restructuring behind the scenes led to ample praise of the work performed by an army of executives in Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada, Dave Brailsford and Dan Ashworth, Liverpool quickly got their own house in order with Hughes and Slot to establish a bold and what now looks to be exciting new era. It is early days, of course, but the early signs are hugely encouraging.

If the comparisons with Ten Hag were unflattering to begin with for Slot, any debate involving the pair now only reflects badly on those at United.
