The last time Gillett was involved in a game involving the Gunners he suggested that William Saliba be dismissed at Bournemouth. The Frenchman's red card contributed to Arsenal suffering their one and only loss of the season so far.
Gillett has already took part in three of Arsenal's nine games having been the man in the middle for their wins over Wolves and then Tottenham. Both of those contests were won by the team from the Emirates.
In the season opener with Wolves, which Arsenal won 2-0 on their own patch, there was some controversy involving Yerson Mosquera. He appeared to grab Kai Havertz by the neck but no punishment was issued by the referee. Mirror Football understands that Arsenal aren't impressed that Gillett has been assigned to another one of their games after several of his recent decisions went against them.
Last term Arteta found himself particularly frustrated by Gillett as Arsenal were beaten at Aston Villa. Gillett ruled out a late Havertz equaliser for handball – a call upheld by VAR – and failed to give a penalty for Douglas Luiz’s challenge on Gabriel Jesus.
Arteta spent that game up in the stands at Villa Park, having been handed a touchline suspension, and tried to bite his tongue after the game. After the defeat in the Midlands the Arsenal boss simply claimed he had “a big opinion” on the decisions and that they were “clear and obvious to me”.
Arsenal's last visit to Newcastle also had Arteta fuming as he claimed some of the decisions were a "disgrace." The north Londoners were narrowly beaten 1-0 with Anthony Gordon's second-half winner surviving three separate VAR checks.

Stuart Atwell was the man in the middle on that occasion, but he is not involved in the clash at St James' Park this weekend. Arteta launched a full blown rant in several post-match press conferences and was later charged by the FA for his choice of language.
Arsenal know they can ill afford to drop any more points having been held by Liverpool at the weekend. They are currently five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with Arteta acknowledging that gap cannot grow further.
This term the team's discipline has come in for criticism. Already they've been hit with three red cards - and on every occasion they have dropped points. Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard and Saliba have all been given their marching orders since the beginning of the campaign.
