Mikel Arteta’s side will now face Crystal Palace in the final eight of the competition after they advanced in their tie away to Aston Villa.
The pick of the goals on the night came from 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri who continues to work his way into Arteta’s starting XI.
Even Preston’s manager Paul Heckingbottom praised Nwaneri who put on a real show for the traveling Arsenal fans up at Deepdale.
However, Arteta has now shared just what Nwaneri did in training on Tuesday which left him unsurprised by the goal the youngster scored.
Speaking to the media after the game, Arteta admitted Nwaneri scored a similar goal to what he did on Wednesday.
“He did it yesterday in training so we’re getting used to that,” Arteta told football.london.
“He’s a big talent, he’s got the right attitude, he’s got the right players and context around him and we need to make sure that we put brick by brick. But we have some player there! in training the day before.”
Clearly, the youngster is considered a real star for the future around the club with Per Mertesacker comparing Nwaneri to Martin Odegaard.
And it really was some finish from the youngster as he continues to build a case for himself potentially earning a start in the Premier League.
Ethan Nwaneri stats vs Preston North End
The Gunners had the game wrapped up inside the first hald as they took a two-goal lead into the break thanks to Nwaneri and Gabriel Jesus.
Nwaneri has featured six times for the Gunners now but is still awaiting his first start in the Premier League.
Ian Wright thinks Nwaneri should’ve started for Arsenal against Bournemouth earlier in the month but the youngster is doing his chances no harm with performances like Wednesday night’s.
For a player with such a creative spark, Nwaneri did not shy away from getting stuck in with his fair share of defensive work.
In what was a positive night for the Gunners, this was just another step forward for the 17-year-old talent.
