Brazilian fail with audacious approach to sign €10 million-a-year Arteta signing from Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has blown hot and cold since joining Arsenal from Manchester City in a deal worth €52 million in July 2022. The South American attacker, who signed a contract with €10 million-a-year wages, was one of the players who signalled Mikel Arteta was leaving his imprint on the first-team squad as he looked to challenge for the Premier League title

While the 27-year-old initially impressed with his hold-up play and ability to bring Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli into the game, he has not been prolific in front of the goal. Jesus has managed only 19 goals and 15 assists in 76 appearances thus far for Arsenal in the last two years.

So, widespread speculation has suggested Arsenal might cash in on Jesus and scour the market for a better striker. However, the North London club refused to part ways with the Brazilian international in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the former Manchester City striker recently emerged as a target for Palmeiras.

2025 homecoming on the horizon?

Palmeiras’s interest in Gabriel Jesus is understandable, even though the operation is ambitious. The Brazilian giants want to make a mark at next summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, with the upcoming edition being the first in the new format. So, the Verdao approached Arsenal to enquire about a move for Jesus.

However, the Gunners have rebuffed Palmeiras, with Mikel Arteta considering Jesus a crucial part of his squad. Palmeiras might have also struggled to match the Brazilian attacker’s €10 million-a-year wages even if Arsenal gave the desired response.

However, with the Gunners maintaining their stance on Gabriel Jesus’s future, Palmeiras must look elsewhere to bolster the offensive department next year. As for the 27-year-old, he will hope to regain his spot as the first-choice striker for Arsenal, although his prospects are not bright.
