Calafiori, Saka, Odegaard: Latest Arsenal injury news and expected return dates ahead of Liverpool clash

Several Arsenal players are undergoing recovery from injury and it remains to be seen as to how fit the Gunners’ squad will be when they host Arne Slot’s Liverpool who have won eight games in a row in all competitions.
Bukayo Saka
England international Saka is a doubt for Sunday’s game against Liverpool as he was yet to be able to train earlier in the week. Saka wasn’t fit enough to make the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League game. He suffered a hamstring injury during England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece during the last international break. Mikel Arteta said after the game: “At the moment, I am not very helpful. Let's see. We still have a few days. I don't know. He wasn't able to train yet, so that's unlikely.”

Expected return - Sunday 27 October vs Liverpool

Jurrien Timber
Dutch defender Timber has been dealing with a muscle issue since the start of the month and is edging closer to a full return. Mikel Arteta wasn’t able to include him in the squad on Tuesday, but it’s looking more likely that Timber could be fit against Liverpool. He was replaced in the starting XI by Ben White who may well have to start again on Sunday due to the injury concerns to Timber and fellow full-back Riccardo Calafiori.

Riccardo Calafiori
Italian international Calafiori suffered a knee injury during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. He tripped and landed badly which caused some form of issue to his knee.

It is not yet clear as to just how long he could miss, but Mikel Arteta says it could be bad news. After the game he said: “With Riccy, it's something different; he felt something; I don't know the extent of that, so in that sense, it's not great news.”

Expected return - Unknown

Martin Odegaard
The Liverpool game will likely come too soon for Odegaard who suffered an ankle injury during international duty with Norway in September.

Before Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth, Mikel Arteta said: “He needs to clear some markers doing things with the ball in that latter stage of rehab. Next week will be crucial.”

Expected return - Wednesday 30 October vs Preston North End

Takehiro Tomiyasu
Full-back Tomiyasu is nearing close to a return after he reaggravated an injury he had originally suffered to his knee in July. He has been passed as fit but wasn’t able to make the squad on Tuesday night. He should be available for selection against Liverpool.
