Forget Sesko, Arsenal can sign £38m star in huge bargain deal in January, 8 goals this season - opinion

Arsenal should make an approach for one of Ligue 1’s in-form strikers in January.

The Gunners have had another good start to the Premier League season. They are currently third in the standings with 17 points, one behind leaders Liverpool.
There was much talk about the club needing a new striker in the summer, but Kai Havertz has provided the perfect answer with six goals from 10 appearances.

Despite this, we believe the Gunners should spend on a new marksman in January, considering the poor form and fitness concerns of Gabriel Jesus for some time.

Jesus looked in relatively good touch in pre-season, but he picked up another injury. Since his return, he has looked out of sorts with a lack of confidence in front of goal.

The Brazilian is unlikely to be shown the exit door at the turn of the year, but in our opinion, the club should look into another striking option to add quality depth.

Lille’s Jonathan David comes to our mind.

The Canadian star has yet to commit to a new deal at the French outfit and he is free to negotiate a pre-contract in January as his contract expires next summer.

However, the Gunners should explore a bargain move in the next transfer window. The Ligue 1 outfit will surely be tempted to sell him than losing him for nothing.

David had a fantastic 2023/24 season with Les Dogues, scoring 26 goals across all competitions.

He has continued his good run this term with eight goals from 13 games for Bruno Genesio’s side.

The striker is presently valued at £38 million, but he could be signed for around £20m this winter.

David would perfectly fit into the plans of manager Mikel Arteta. He is predominantly a striker, but he can also operate from the second striker or attacking midfield role.

The 24-year-old is good with his hold-up play and distribution. He would be a solid bargain signing with former target Benjamin Sesko unlikely to be available in January.
