Jamie Carragher makes new Arsenal Premier League title race comment after shock Bournemouth defeat

Jamie Carragher expects Liverpool and Manchester City to have received a huge boost after Arsenal's 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta's side suffered their first defeat of the season with William Saliba's red card costing the Gunners. Ryan Christie's second-half goal was followed by a Justin Kluivert penalty 10 minutes later to leave Arsenal a point behind league leaders Liverpool, who host Chelsea on Sunday (kick-off: 4:30pm).

The Gunners have now been handed a significant problem with their key centre-back set to miss next weekend's crunch clash against Arne Slot's team in north London. Arsenal are also currently without several other key players, including Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka through injury.

Liverpool legend Carragher has shared his belief that the fine margins of a title race will create a buzz around his former club and City even at this early stage of the season.

"It looks like a little bit like last season where three teams are going for the title," he told Sky Sports. "If you're Man City or Liverpool today, the same way City and Arsenal would've reacted to Liverpool losing to Forest.

"If you're going for the title, when you lose a game that's not expected, it gives an energy or buzz about maybe Anfield or City that if you get three points to gain on Arsenal when they've come against a team you'd expect to be in mid-table.
