KAI HAVERTZ INJURY UPDATE:Arsenal suffer huge Kai Havertz injury blow as 'main man' pulls out of international duty

Germany's official X account spilled the beans on Sunday afternoon, with a statement which read: "Kai Havertz will miss the upcoming international matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands due to knee problems. National coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated Jonathan Burkardt in Havertz's place. Get well soon, Kai!"

The injury is a kick in the teeth for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who is already having to cope without skipper Martin Odegaard thanks to an ankle injury suffered during last month's internationals. The date for his comeback is not yet clear, reports the Mirror.

Havertz has been hailed by Arteta for turning his Arsenal fortunes around after a rocky start last year, with the boss noticing a significant shift in the player's approach. Last week he referred to the star as "unbelievable" and said "he is one of our main players at the moment".

"You can tell [his confidence has grown], he takes the ball and he runs with the ball," Arteta gushed to reporters following the victory over Southampton. "He's on high press, he goes full gas, the way he holds the ball, the position he takes in the box.

"He's an attacking midfielder, he plays as a nine, you don't know where he is, that's his football brain. His focus now is 'I'm going to win the game, I'm going to do it' and that's a different thing."

"When he's practising, he wants more and he's not satisfied with what he's doing because there is still, I think, another level from him. Obviously, he's surrounded by incredible players but something has changed in him and that confidence, you really sense it and now he's putting it into games and he's winning football matches which is great."
