Liverpool handed £16m Leroy Sane 'problem' as Bayern Munich feelings clear

Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane reportedly wants to stay at the German giants despite transfer links with Liverpool. The Reds are being mooted with a host of wide players as contract uncertainty surrounds the future of Mohamed Salah.

The Mirror reported last October that Liverpool 'made' the former Manchester City attacker their number one target to replace the Egyptian. It was claimed that the club were ready to 'smash' their £80million world-record, an accolade broken by Darwin Nunez's arrival from Benfica.

Salah will be able to speak to overseas clubs over a pre-contract agreement from January ahead of the expiry of his deal in July. The 32-year-old has been the topic of interest for a number of seasons following the emergence of the Saudi Pro League - in 2023, Al-Ittihad launched an audacious £150million move for the forward, which was ultimately rebuffed by Anfield chiefs.

In a report from Christian Falk, he claimed that talks over an extension between Sane and Bayern have calmed slightly due to the Germany international's injury. However, the 28-year-old would like to remain in Bavaria, but the issue revolves around whether the German giants offer a deal that he is willing to accept.

Should an extension fail to materialise, the winger is said to be open to proposals from other clubs, with Newcastle United said to be interested - but the Magpies aren't one that currently appeals to the former Premier League winner.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant claimed that Sane would be the ideal replacement for the Reds' record-breaker. He told Safest Casino Sites: "There are wingers out there with the pace and goalscoring ability that you could replace Mohamed Salah with.

"I’d love to see Leroy Sane come in from Bayern Munich, after seeing what he did to Arsenal in the Champions League.

"I haven’t seen many players do that to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, and he does it every week in Germany. He knows the Premier League from his time at Manchester City, so for me he would be a great replacement for Salah if he leaves Liverpool.

"Would he put up the numbers that Salah does? I don’t think so, but then again, who would?"
