With Mamardashvili staying at Valencia for the 2024-25 season before making the move to England next summer, though, questions about where exactly another top stopper fits in with the Reds already having arguably the top goalkeeper in football starting for them is a question for the future.
And regardless the presence of Alisson Becker at Liverpool, Mamardashvili says it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up when it was presented to him—and that even if he needs to compete with Alisson for playing time next season, it’s a move he’s enthusiastic to make.
“I was attracted by the Liverpool project as soon as the club’s representatives met with me,” Mamardashvili said when asked about his future while on duty with Georgia’s national team this week. “I will fight for the starting goalkeeper role there, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave.”
Before the time comes to join the Reds, though, Mamardashvili’s more pressing concerns are at Valencia, with the La Liga side facing a difficult start to the season and mired in the relegation places: 18th with just six points after nine games and two back of Leganes, Getafe, and safety.
