‘Odd’: Pundit says the referee did something weird during Arsenal vs Liverpool before disallowing late goal

Sunday was another big Premier League clash that was marred by a controversial refereeing decision.
Arsenal have had their fair share of refereeing controversies this season from Declan Rice’s red card vs Brighton to William Saliba’s dismissal against Bournemouth.

However, on Sunday, it wasn’t a red card that was making headlines, it was a disallowed goal.

Gabriel Jesus thought he’d won the game for Arsenal in the dying seconds. However, the referee blew up for a foul earlier in the phase of play.

Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing this disallowed goal, and he says that he noticed something odd about Anthony Taylor in this moment.

Anthony Taylor’s odd reaction to Arsenal foul
Clarke noted something strange just before this disallowed goal.

The pundit says that Taylor seemed very unsure in this moment, claiming that he put the whistle to his mouth, took it away and then ultimately decided to blow up.

“What he did, he thought, I think that’s a foul from Kiwior, but he moved his hand and he didn’t blow. He let play go on and he only blew when he thought Havertz might score.

“I think he was just unsure. He was unsure. And then when Havertz was about to score, because that’s when the whistle blew, it wasn’t way earlier as he was caught telling the players that he blew it way earlier.

“He didn’t. You can hear it. Watch it back.”

“He goes halfway towards his mouth, takes it away, watches. Havertz does his thing, then he blows it. And I just think that that’s odd.”

Arsenal’s terrible refereeing luck
There’s a real case to make that Anthony Taylor made a mistake here, and this is just the latest in a run of refereeing decisions that have cost Arsenal.

The Gunners have dropped points in four Premier League games so far this season, and in each of those matches, there has been a trigger point involving a referee’s call.

Game Arsenal dropped points in Refereeing incident Final score
Arsenal vs Brighton Declan Rice sent off for kicking the ball away 2-2
Manchester City vs Arsenal Leandro Trossard sent off for kicking ball away 2-2
Bournemouth vs Arsenal William Saliba sent off for foul on halfway line 2-0
Arsenal vs Liverpool Gabriel Jesus late goal disallowed 2-2
Arsenal just aren’t having the rub of the green when it comes to refereeing decisions at the moment.

Alan Shearer has claimed that Arsenal have a discipline problem right now, but it’s just as easy to chalk this down to bad luck as it is to say that Arsenal have a deep-rooted problem.
