One major signing coming to the Emirates as Arsenal to make imminent behind-the-scenes appointment as Edu gets his wish

Arsenal are set to appoint James King as the club's new director of football operations.
It sees a return to north London for a figure who had previously called the Emirates home between 2016 and 2022 before moving to the Professional Footballers' Association. At that time, King worked with the legal team on commercial deals before moving to the football operations department in 2018, eventually becoming senior legal counsel for football operations.

King is expected to take on the role left vacant by Richard Garlick. The Arsenal chief departed from the director of operations position to become managing director upon the departure of CEO Vina Venkatesham.

The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal's quest to land King has been in the pipeline since the summer. Garlick had to offer support when necessary to get sporting director Edu and the club through the transfer window.

King joins the Gunners after serving as the PFA's General Counsel. Upon appointing him two years ago they praised his experience.

"James’ appointment provides the PFA with even more senior industry experience, gained in both private practice and high-profile roles at one of the English game’s biggest clubs," the union said.

"His CV speaks for itself and I’m delighted that James is joining the union at such a crucial time. His knowledge and experience across both the men’s and women’s games will be of enormous benefit to the PFA and its members."

Former Arsenal midfielder Edu may soon have his eyes on a deal for his colleague to help work through. Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle appears more uncertain than it once was.

While discussions have taken place between parties over extending the Swedish international's contract, the Daily Mail report that those talks have collapsed. It is said Newcastle felt Isak was 'reluctant to commit' to the Magpies and it has been decided that, with three years remaining on his contract, club and the player 'do not see a need' to rush to a new deal.
