Real Madrid Identify This Arsenal Defender As A Top Target: Should Ancelotti Get Him On Board?

In a recent report, Goal claimed that Real Madrid have identified Arsenal defender William Saliba as a top target. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to secure the services of the French centre-back next year.

Saliba’s Impressive Form In North London
Saliba is enjoying a solid campaign at the North London club after he put in a series of impressive performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 23-year-old has appeared in nine matches for Arsenal this season in various competitions.

The French talent has been a dominant presence when defending inside his half as he is averaging 2.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has also been excellent when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 95.2% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Saliba is under contract at the Emirates Stadium will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Real Madrid would have to launch a big offer if they want to sign the French sensation next year.

Real Madrid
LONDON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 28: William Saliba of Arsenal and Jamie Vardy of Leicester City compete for the ball during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Leicester City FC at Emirates Stadium on September 28, 2024 in London, England.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Get Saliba On Board?
Saliba is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

The French talent can use his strong 1.92m frame to win his fair share of duels in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to acquire his services in 2025.

Saliba would enhance the quality of Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.

The French defensive ace might even help Real Madrid challenge for some major silverware in the future. At 23, Saliba will only get better with each season, so the Madrid giants would be wise to try everything they can to get him on board at the end of this campaign.
