Report: Liverpool really keen on signing 'unbelievably fast' player for free at the end of the season

Liverpool are already seemingly busy formulating transfer plans for 2025.

The Reds had a very quiet 2024 indeed, signing only Federico Chiesa to immediately add to the squad.

Whether or not that ends up happening will perhaps soon become clear. But what is in little question is that Liverpool will have to make some moves next summer.

The Reds could yet be in a position of having to replace Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

While reports this week have suggested that Liverpool could move for Castello Lukeba as a potential Van Dijk successor, there are now claims that they may have identified a cheap Salah replacement, too.

Liverpool keen on Jonathan David freebie
Even if Van Dijk and Salah sign new contracts to stay at Anfield, it’s likely that Liverpool will need to replace them both in the near future.

As a result, it’s wise for the Reds to plan ahead while the two players are still at the club.

In terms of a new forward player to continue on from Salah, it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to effectively sign someone who can do anything close to what the Egyptian can.

As a result, the Reds may need to sign two or three players of lesser quality in an attempt to fill in the gaps.

With that in mind, Inter Live report that Liverpool are once again showing ‘strong interest’ in Lille forward Jonathan David.

David is out of contract next summer and is set to be available for nothing. This is said to have led Inter to make contact with the Canadian’s entourage in an attempt to ‘get ahead of the competition.’

But the Milan side reportedly face a battle to land David. It’s claimed that as well as Liverpool, Barcelona and Juventus are also keen to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

Time could be right for Jonathan David signing
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will need to replace Salah at all next summer. But either way there is logic in looking at the forward market.

And when Liverpool do that, David will surely emerge as a viable contender. David was high on Liverpool’s list in 2020, when they decided to sign Diogo Jota instead.

Since then, the former Genk player has been a consistent goal scorer at Lille, bagging 92 times in 197 appearances. David has also been described as ‘unbelievably fast‘ by Canada teammate Theo Bair.

Not turning 25 until January, David is going to be an absolute bargain for someone next summer.

Away from Salah, Arne Slot could be looking for a new centre-forward to replace Darwin Nunez. Things didn’t work out at the start of the decade, but the time could soon be right for David to finally make his way to Anfield.
