Sources: Arsenal plotting to sign 25-yr-old from minnows, recruitment team blown away

Arsenal are plotting a move to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo after his impressive start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.

This comes shortly after recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Gunners want to strengthen their right-wing position in the transfer window.

Mbeumo, 25, has scored six goals in his first eight league games so far this season, inspiring interest from some of the country’s top clubs including Arsenal.

Those goals have placed him second only to Erling Haaland on the goalscoring charts early in the season, and there is a belief he would be able to rocket to the next level in a better side.

His versatility is seen as a key factor by Arsenal’s recruitment team as he can provide cover on the wing, up front, or as a second striker behind the number nine.

Liverpool were also heavily linked to the Cameroon international in the summer, and Football Insider revealed that a fee of £40million would have been enough to secure a deal.

Arsenal’s pursuit of a new winger was accelerated following Bukayo Saka’s injury blow on international duty which sidelined him for the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

The club have grown concerned about the kicks and knocks their star is picking up during games given the lack of quality strength in depth behind him in their squad.

Saka is routinely fouled throughout Premier League games – an issue which saw Arsenal raise an official complaint with PGMOL over his rough treatment in 2023.

Mbeumo, a left-footed right-winger, would be able to step into the squad when called upon while also pushing the England star for his starting place.

As a result, he has emerged as one of the key targets for the Gunners would could move quickly to explore a deal in the January transfer window.

However, the forward remains a crucial part of Thomas Frank’s side and they are understood to be reluctant to see him leave mid-way through the season.
