‘Worrying’: Paul Merson says something's happened with Raheem Sterling at Arsenal that’s concerned him

Raheem Sterling scored his first goal for Arsenal against Bolton on Wednesday evening as the Gunners progressed in the Carabao Cup.
Sterling got his first start for Arsenal in this game, and he delivered.

Hopefully, this will be the start of a decent run of form for the Chelsea loanee.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson has expressed a bit of concern about Sterling and his role at Arsenal.

Indeed, the pundit says that the fact that Sterling didn’t play a single minute against Manchester City at the weekend was a worry, suggesting that Mikel Arteta doesn’t fully trust Sterling.

Why Paul Merson is worried about Raheem Sterling
Merson shared his thoughts on Sterling and the fact he didn’t feature vs Manchester City.

“Yeah I thought it was a good signing, but he didn’t get on the other night at Man City. I thought that was a little bit worrying, I thought Arteta didn’t trust him as much as Jesus, but he’s a top player, you know, again, I like those goals where you are in the six yard box and you tap it in. People say I could’ve scored that, but you couldn’t because you’re not in there,” Merson said.

Merson is worried about how much Arteta trusts Sterling, but there may not be anything to be concerned about here.

Indeed, if there’s any manager in the Premier League who knows what Raheem Sterling is capable of, it’s Mikel Arteta.

Arteta and Sterling worked together very closely during their time at Manchester City, and there isn’t much to worry about here.

Sterling is simply being eased into his new surroundings, and it won’t be long before he’s being used in these big games.

Sterling could have a big say on Arsenal’s ultimate destiny this season.
