£27m ace starts as Arteta makes seven changes - Predicted Arsenal XI vs Newcastle United

Arsenal lost vital ground in the Premier League title race after playing out a 2-2 draw with Liverpool last weekend at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners bounced back to pick up a 3-0 victory over Preston North End in midweek but focus now returns to the English top-flight where they will take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.

It is unlikely to be an easy fixture for Mikel Arteta’s side as the Magpies are coming off the back of a moral-boosting victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Arsenal have several injury woes with Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu all confined to the treatment room. However, in a big boost, Gabriel Magalhaes will be travelling with the squad after his injury scare.

Tommy Setford started in goal for the midweek fixture against Preston, but the 18-year-old will drop out to make space for David Raya this Saturday.

Arteta is also expected to make two changes to the backline that played last time in the Carabao Cup game.

Thomas Partey should slot in at right-back with Ben White’s availability doubtful due to a knee issue. Jurrien Timber will likely play on the opposite flank, with William Saliba and Gabriel featuring in central defence.

In midfield, Jorginho will drop to the bench to make way for Declan Rice to partner Mikel Merino.

Ethan Nwaneri produced an excellent display against Preston, scoring a stunning long-range goal. But Arteta may start Leandro Trossard, who joined the Gunners in 2023 for £27 million, ahead of Nwaneri for the number 10 role.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli should play on the wings, with Kai Havertz leading the attack.

Arsenal Predicted XI: Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Rice, Merino; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli; Havertz
