Arsenal forward could miss Manchester United fixture because of Premier League rule

Gabriel Jesus is facing the threat of being forced to serve a one-match suspension for Arsenal.

The Brazilian forward has made 10 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season and while he's yet to score a goal, remains an important player for Mikel Arteta’s side. He has also struggled with injuries during his time in north London, most recently suffering a groin injury which kept him on the sidelines for a couple of weeks.
Jesus was handed a rare start in the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest and picked up a booking in the 30th minute for a foul. It was his fourth yellow card of the season and means that the 27-year-old now faces the risk of being suspended for one match if he gets booked again.

According to Premier League rules, a player who accumulates five yellow cards within their team's first 19 matches is subject to a one-match ban. Another booking before Arsenal's 19th league game will result in a suspension for Jesus.

Arteta's side travel to the London Stadium on Saturday where they will face West Ham, before hosting Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on December 4.

Arteta responded to questions about Arsenal's discipline problem last month after the Gunners received three red cards in their opening eight Premier League games.

“The most effective way, I have to be very honest, is not talking about it,” said the Spaniard.

“Because we tried and we showed and we talked and we repeated the message that we had to play with 11 and it happened again after a week or after three weeks and they said: ‘Guys, let’s try something else’.

“And then it disappeared. So I don’t know if it’s the right way or not but that’s what happened, that’s the reality.”

Jurrien Timber is another Arsenal player on three yellow cards this season, and he will need to tread carefully in the upcoming games to avoid suspension
