Arsenal are without a win in their last two league games, having suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth and drawn 2-2 with title rivals Liverpool. Those results have left them third in the table, five points behind defending champions Manchester City and four behind Liverpool.
However, Arsenal will be without several key players when they take on Eddie Howe's side at St James' Park. With that in mind, Mirror Football has taken a look at all of the latest news from the Emirates.
Odegaard injury update
Arteta has revealed that captain Martin Odegaard will not be available for their trip to Newcastle as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Defender Ricciardo Calafiori will also miss the game, while the availability of Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes is in doubt. "Riccardo and Martin are out definitely," Arteta confirmed in his pre-match press conference.
"With Ben, we don't know yet. He hasn't trained yet. He could not train, he could not get involved, so let's wait and see if he's available. We have a training session today. If [Gabriel] can complete that, he'll be available."
Arsenal "disappointment"
Liverpool legend John Barnes was left "disappointed" with Arsenal's decision to sit back against the Reds, claiming it ultimately cost them the win.
"It was an excellent game," Barnes told the Sign Up – Into Football programme on TNT Sports. "Arsenal were probably the better team in the first half, especially when they went 2-1 up. At that point, I didn't think Liverpool would come back.
"But Arsenal sat back and allowed Liverpool to attack, which led to the equaliser. I'm pleased Liverpool showed resilience, but I was disappointed Arsenal didn't keep pushing forward."

Arteta hails "rare" talent
Arteta has also praised 17-year-old prospect Ethan Nwaneri, branding him a "rare" talent after he starred in Arsenal's Carabao Cup win over Preston.
"It is rare to see a talent like this at 17 years old, that's true," Arteta said. "But when we gave him his debut in the Premier League, there was a lot of talk about it but we didn't do it because he was a gift, we did it because we knew the pathway that we wanted to build with him and we wanted to send him a really strong sign about how much we trust him and how much we wanted him to stay with us.
"We are delighted to have him. I can talk about how good he is right now. At 17 years old, to be in a position like he is in at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, I think sums up really well the level that he has. What is going to happen in the future is mainly is going to depend on him and how much he wants it."
