The Gunners were blunted by the Magpies as they failed to create many meaningful chances on Tyneside - although Declan Rice was guilty of a big miss in the closing stages.
Alexander Isak - who has been linked with Arsenal - netted the only goal of the game as he powered a header home to give Arsenal their second defeat of the season.
As Arsenal now prepare for some tough games coming up against Inter Milan and Chelsea, Mirror Football has taken a look at some of the biggest stories coming out of the club right now.
Arteta admits Newcastle loss was deserved
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is known for coming out fighting when his team lose, but he could only hold his hands up and admit his side were well beaten on Saturday.
The Gunners offered just one shot on target in a concerning display all round and Arteta could not muster any excuses, saying he was disappointed with how his side adapted to going 1-0 down.
"We deserved to lose today," he said after the game. "I thought we started really well and were really dominant. We didn't defend the box well enough. Credit to them. They scored a great goal with a good ball. Then the game changes and you start to play a different game.
"You have to adapt and we didn't do that well enough. I am very frustrated. We got dragged into a game they are looking for constantly and we couldn't play the game that we wanted. We had two big chances - Mikel had a big one, Declan had a big one. We lacked answers."
Arsenal continue worrying defensive form
Arsenal's loss to Newcastle means they have now gone three Premier League games without a win - after a 2-2 draw to Liverpool and a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth.
The team have also suffered a concerning run that has seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in their last six games in the league. You have to go back to September 15 for the last clean slate, in a 1-0 over Spurs.
Isak's strike against the Gunners was the 11th they've let in this season in the Premier League. That's as many as Manchester United in 14th and Crystal Palace in 17th.
The Gunners were definitely hurt by a period where they were without the suspended William Saliba, with Thomas Partey having to fill in at right-back during his and Ben White's absence in the last two matches.
Gunners consider Kudus move
It's not long until the January transfer window swings open and Arsenal are already lining up their targets - with West Ham's Muhammad Kudus a target.
The Ghana star has impressed this season even with West Ham struggling in the league and Mirror Football reported on Sunday morning that Arsenal see him as a £90million replacement for Leandro Trossard.
Trossard is garnering interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, with Al-Ittihad eyeing a £40m move for the Belgian after failing to land him on loan.
Kudus has two goals for the Hammers this term but has also found himself in hot water after being red carded against Tottenham for lashing out at Mickey van de Ven.
