Arsenal plotting move to sign 'superstar' in January - Transfer Guru

Arsenal are working on a deal to sign a “superstar” winger in the January transfer window to bolster their title challenge.

This is according to former Man United, Tottenham and West Ham senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta is unhappy with the makeup of his squad in that position.

Raheem Sterling was brought in as a rotation option during the summer, while Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli represent their other options.

However, concerns have emerged about Martinelli’s consistency, despite his goal in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, and there is a growing belief that a new winger would improve their side.

As a result, the recruitment team at the Emirates are said to be working behind the scenes to find a game-changing option that would help bridge the gap and win the title.

Brown, who spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period and has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, has encouraged Arsenal to enter the transfer market to improve as Man City have done in the past.

“Arteta isn’t happy with the makeup of the team in that position,” he told Football Insider.

“There have been question marks about Sterling, Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

“Martinelli, over a period of time, has never managed to nail down that position.

“He’s been starting there recently, but whether he’s good enough to start there every week for a title-challenging team is up for debate.

“They’re all viewed as squad players, and from what I’m told, Arsenal want to improve in that position in the transfer market.

“The recruitment and scouting team have already been looking at players, and they will know what they need to bridge the gap to win the league.

“A real superstar, game-changing player is what they’re looking for. Someone who can come in and make a real difference to their attack.

“We’ve seen Man City do it before when they signed Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku.

“They knew who they wanted and who they thought would make a real difference to their team, so they went and got them.”
