Benjamin Sesko 'reaches gentleman's agreement' as Arsenal discover contract clause is gone

Reported Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko could reportedly leave RB Leipzig next summer due to a "gentleman's agreement" with the Bundesliga team.
The forward was frequently linked with a transfer to both Arsenal and Chelsea during the last summer transfer window, but no deal came to fruition for the 21-year-old who instead signed a one-year contract extension.

Arsenal chose not to pursue a striker during the window, with Raheem Sterling's loan being the only addition to their attacking line-up. They are still without a recognised goalscorer this season, with Kai Havertz leading the Premier League scoring charts for the Gunners with a mere four goals.

Despite his contract not expiring until 2029, the future of Sesko - who has netted seven goals in 14 matches across all competitions this season - remains a hot topic.

His exit from the Red Bull Arena next year could be facilitated by the "gentleman's agreement" he holds with Leipzig, should he wish to move on in the summer of 2025, as per Sky Germany's Philipp Hinze, reports football.london.

Hinze also reported that the German club could ask for up to £62.2million (€75m) for the Slovenian international if he expresses a desire to depart next year. Sesko could have been bought for just £54m last summer, but the same report suggests that his release clause was removed and the player received a pay rise when he agreed to extend his contract recently.

Despite the swirling rumours about his future, Sesko seems content with his current situation at Leipzig, where he's the top pick for the striker position. Even the player himself expressed satisfaction with his stint at the German club and explained his decision to extend his contract in a summer interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Last month, he said: "I don't comment on transfer rumors. I'm happy in Leipzig and that's why I recently extended my contract. I want to achieve even more great things here, Leipzig wants to grow a lot and I want to accompany the team on this very intriguing journey."

Sesko could be just what the doctor ordered for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, who've stumbled in front of goal, failing to find the net in two of their last three league matches, resulting in losses to Bournemouth and Newcastle.

With no wins in their last three outings, Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League standings and risk remaining 10 points adrift of leaders Liverpool if they come up short in their tasty fixture against Chelsea on Sunday
