Mundo Deportivo cover comments from the Arsenal goalkeeper today made to DAZN’s Premier Coner by Guinness 0.0 podcast.
The 29-year-old arrived at Arsenal from Brentford on loan in August last year before making the move permanent for €31.9m this summer.
Some eyebrows were raised at the time Arsenal announced that initial deal, particularly given they already had Aaron Ramsdale as their number one in the squad.
Raya had a rocky start to life at the Emirates but quickly established himself as the number one, helping to improve Arsenal thanks to his ability to play out from the back.
He’s now one of the leading goalkeepers in Europe, playing a key role as Arsenal try to compete for the Premier League title once again.
Neither he nor Arsenal are regretting the transfer at this point, with the goalkeeper considered one of the smarter decisions they’ve made on the market.
Not that Raya needed convincing, admitting that he was sold on what Arteta and Arsenal had planned from minute one.
“All the effort and work has been worth it,” he said.
“Every child dreams of playing for a team as big as Arsenal. When Arteta calls me, he tells me the project and explains how everything works.
“I didn’t even have to think about it, I wanted to be there. Since I arrived in England, I always paid a lot of attention to Arsenal.”
