‘Every time’: Troy Deeney names ‘excellent’ Liverpool player in his Team of the Week after win vs Aston Villa

Liverpool head into the next international break sitting top of the Premier League table after a fine 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

Arne Slot has really impressed Gus Poyet this season, with the Liverpool manager enjoying a dream start in the Anfield dugout.

Slot has quickly established his own identity on the team, with the Dutchman expertly taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

That has come despite the huge pressure on his shoulders given the huge hole that was left when Klopp departed in the summer.

Liverpool have annoyed Jason Cundy with their ability to continue winning regardless of their performances, which is undoubtedly the sign of a great team.

Troy Deeney left really impressed by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah
And that is what the Reds are this season, although they have been helped massively once more by the individual brilliance of Mohamed Salah.

He was once again on target in the win against Aston Villa at Anfield, with Troy Deeney now naming the winger in his latest Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport.

“He’s just excellent, isn’t he?” Deeney said of Salah. “Every time I think he’s going to slow down or he’s ready to leave he gets better and better.

“He gets another goal and assist in a huge weekend for Liverpool, after Manchester City lost. It was an opportunity for Liverpool to kick on and they were excellent against Aston Villa.”

What are Mohamed Salah’s statistics at Liverpool?
Salah has been simply phenomenal for the Merseyside club since his arrival from Roma in 2017, with the attacker a constant threat season after season.

The Egyptian now has double figures for goals this season after his strike against Villa, with 10 from his 17 appearances in all competitions.

Salah has also chipped in with 10 assists, proving his superb ability to link up with his fellow Liverpool attackers in the final third.

The iconic winger is now on 221 goals and 99 assists from his 366 Liverpool appearances, with many more yet to come.

There is, however, the major worry among the Anfield faithful that it is his last season at the club, with Salah’s contract expiring next season.

Keeping him at all costs should now be the priority for Slot and the powers that be at the club, but it may already be too late to convince him to stay.
