Historically Arsenal have rarely taken anyone from West Ham.
Although a number have moved in the opposite direction.
That changed when the Gunners signed West Ham captain Declan Rice for a then record £105m, though.
Now it seems Arsenal want everything but the kitchen sink from the Hammers.
Earlier this week it was claimed Mikel Arteta wants West Ham star boy Mohammed Kudus at Arsenal in the summer.
Kudus is far and away West Ham’s best player, just like Rice was.
And as was the case with Rice, the Gunners are said to want to take him from east to north London for big money
But he’s not the only Hammer linked with Arsenal this week.
Worryingly, it was exclusively revealed to Hammers News earlier week that West Ham’s owners fear Arsenal want Tim Steidten.
Major Arsenal news from France is a big deal for West Ham
The German technical director has been a coveted figure over the last year.
There was reportedly interest in him from Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs before he joined the Hammers.
That has since been substantiated by The Telegraph, who reported the same thing three days later.
It says everything about the fickle nature of football that Steidten has gone from a Hammers hero to a divisive figure in the space of a few months.
He was the man who brought Kudus to West Ham for a bargain £38.5m when other clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton – were also keen.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man was deemed to have ‘won the summer transfer window’ for West Ham by overseeing nine signings to the tune of £155m.
Some of those signings have not worked out so far, though, and West Ham have struggled.
As a result Steidten has been criticised by fans and journalists alike.
Therefore sudden links to Arsenal have raised eyebrows.
It was claimed this week West Ham are still very keen to keep Steidten.
So major Arsenal news coming from France is a seriously big deal for West Ham.
Arsenal quickly move on from Hammers director Steidten
And it comes from the journalist who first broke news of Lucas Paqueta’s surprise move to West Ham.
According to Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna and his colleague Joshua Broken, Steidten won’t be joining Arsenal.
Because the Gunners are now looking to bring back their former star Tomas Rosicky to replace Edu as sporting director.
Better still for West Ham given their desire to keep Steidten, the report claims it is a two-horse race for the role between Rosicky and Per Mertesacker.
“According to our latest information, Arsenal has also launched its recruitment process to find the rare pearl and two names stand out at the time of writing,” the report states.
“Indeed, the Gunners particularly appreciate the profiles of Tomas Rosicky (44 years old) and Per Mertesacker (40 years old), two former players of the house.
“If the former German defender pleases the London management, we can also tell you that discussions have already been initiated with the former Czech international attacking midfielder.
“Now it remains to be seen who will be the lucky one.”
Well it seems West Ham may be the lucky ones.
Although some Hammers supporters may not agree as Steidten’s dealings come under increasing scrutiny.
