Report: Arsenal handed injury boost as defender spotted in first-team training ahead of Nottm Forest clash

Arsenal will be eager to get back in action after suffering a downturn in form before the international break.

The Gunners are yet to win in November, and their last Premier League victory was on 5 October when they ran out 3-1 winners over Southampton.

Since then, Arsenal have lost in the league to Bournemouth and Newcastle, though they did pick up creditable draws against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta has had to deal with a multitude of injuries, with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori having missed games.

Now, Arsenal have been handed an injury boost as one of their defenders has been spotted taking part in first-team training.

Kieran Tierney returns to Arsenal first-team training
The player in question is Kieran Tierney, who has not played for Arsenal since being stretchered off in the Euro 2024 game between Scotland and Switzerland in June.

The Gunners defender returned to individual training in September and, as per the club’s latest training video on X, is now taking part in group sessions.

Timely boost for Arteta
Although Tierney doesn’t seem to be in Arteta’s long-term plans, his return to training could provide some relief from a number of personnel issues at the back.

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori remain on the sidelines for the Gunners, meaning Arteta could potentially utilise Tierney at left-back if needed.

Indeed, the Scotland international is in Arsenal’s Champions League squad and, with the busy festive period now coming up, it’s a case of the more the merrier.

That said, Arteta still has Jurrien Timber, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior who can all play at left-back.

With that in mind, Tierney – who Gabriel Martinelli has deemed the fastest player at Arsenal – would likely still be low down the pecking order.
