The Gunners have performed below expectations in the current campaign. They are nine points behind Liverpool, who are top of the Premier League table.
Injuries have contributed to their inconsistent performances. The club will now have to cope without Bukayo Saka, who is out for more than two months.
The England international picked up a hamstring injury in the 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, and he has subsequently undergone surgery for the setback.
This could force Arsenal to enter the transfer market for an attacking reinforcement and Daily Mail claim that Wolves’ Matheus Cunha in on their winter shortlist.
The source add that the Brazil international has been on the club’s radar for months. Wolves have failed to agree a new contract with the attacker as thing stand.
Cunha would be an outstanding mid-season signing
The 25-year-old has entered his third campaign with Wolves. He has been in impressive form with 10 goals and four assists from 19 league games.
Aside from his goal involvements, Cunha has caught the eye with his high pressing and ball recoveries. He has also won an impressive 5.7 ground and aerial duels per appearance.
Cunha is primarily a centre-forward, but he has been successful in an attacking midfield role this term. The former Atletico Madrid man can also operate from the left or right wing.
His versatility would make him a perfect fit for manager Mikel Arteta, but the big question remains whether Wolves would consider parting ways with him in January.
Wolves paid a hefty fee of £44 million to sign him permanently, and it could take around £60m to test their resolve. Arsenal need to show ambition with a big-money proposal.
Cunha, who has been described as a ‘special player‘ by Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, could be tempted by a mid-season move with the prospect of winning potential silverware.
