David Ornstein provides update on potential Gyokeres transfer amid Arsenal links

Arsenal fans got a closer look at Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres during Tuesday’s match between the two clubs, with mixed assessments of the performance after the game.

Gyokeres didn’t score or assist any goals, and he had one particularly poor free-kick attempt, but he did threaten with a couple of shots from very tight angles, including one that David Raya had to push onto the post in the final minutes.

It was arguably more due to Gabriel and William Saliba’s excellent performance and Raya’s impressive goalkeeping that Gyokeres blanked, rather than any fault on his part.
A few days later, David Ornstein provided an update for The Athletic on Gyokeres’ long-term future.

Ornstein wrote that Gyokeres will “likely be one of the most high-profile transfers in 2025”, with a summer move more likely than January – though both options are still possible.

The report adds that Gyokeres has a €100m (£83.2m) release clause, but Sporting are likely to do business for around €70m (£58.3m). The player has a preference on who he wants to join, but his camp are considering multiple options from around Europe and in the Premier League.
