Riccardo Calafiori has been injured for much of this season, starting just six league games so far, while Mikel Merino isn’t up to speed just yet.
Calafiori, Sterling and Merino aren’t having a huge impact this season, while there was another summer signing made at Arsenal.
Indeed, Neto got his dream move to Arsenal on deadline day as he arrived at the Emirates on loan.
As expected, Neto hasn’t played much for Arsenal this season, and according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, Arsenal don’t trust Neto to start games after watching him in training recently.
Arsenal not impressed by Neto in training
Kay shared what he knows about the on-loan Brazilian.
The journalist says that Arsenal aren’t confident in Neto’s ability and they may dip into the market for a goalkeeper in January.
“Arsenal are looking. From what I’m hearing Arsenal aren’t really confident in playing Neto. I think if a goalkeeper does become available and they can get one in January it wouldn’t surprise me. What I’m hearing is that they’re not 100% confident in Neto in training, an interesting one,” Kay said.
What Edu said about Neto when he signed
Arsenal have quickly lost trust in Neto after seeing him in training, but when he arrived, Edu was happy with this signing.
“So when you see the goalkeeper unit, we planned to have someone with experience there.
“Because if you see now David Raya is now our number one in that situation, Neto can come with that experience of the Premier League,” Edu said.
“He was the captain of Bournemouth and he has different experience outside of here as well, in the Champions League.
“And also we have a third goalkeeper who’s come to the academy we’ve just bought [Tommy Setford].
“So I think the group of the goalkeepers, to have David, to have someone with experience in front of the academy, makes a lot of sense as well.
“So we are so confident to have Neto here, I’ve known him quite well for a long time and he can add a lot to the squad.”
Unfortunately, Edu appears to have misjudged this one.
Luckily though, David Raya has remained injury free, and January is just around the corner.
Arsenal have been linked to Joan Garcia in January, while Jack Porter is an exciting prospect in the academy who could soon make a name for himself.
Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation isn’t necessarily a huge concern, but perhaps it’s something they will want to address in the coming weeks.
